【番外】米国籍受賞者を日本人とする日本語メディア
今年のノーベル物理学賞の受賞者に南部陽一郎、小林誠、益川敏英の３氏が決まった。南部氏は米国籍であるのにかかわらず、日本語メディアは日本人３人としている。内外の英文メディアは一致して日本人２人、米国人１人と報じている。日本語メディアの国際感覚ぶりが表れたようだ。（鳥居英晴）
ネット上での各メディアの表現を見てみると、朝日は見出しで「ノーベル物理学賞、素粒子研究の日本人３氏に」 とあり、本文でも「日本人計３人に贈る」としている。読売の見出しは「ノーベル物理学賞に南部陽一郎、小林誠、益川敏英の３氏」。本文では「日本人受賞者は１５人になった」と南部氏を日本人扱いしている。毎日は見出しで「ノーベル物理学賞：益川教授ら日本人３氏に授与」と本文でも日本人としている。日経の見出しは「ノーベル物理学賞に日本の３氏 素粒子理論に貢献」。産経は「ノーベル物理学賞に南部さんら日本人３人」。
共同通信は「日本人３氏にノーベル物理学賞 素粒子物理で重要な業績」。時事通信は「南部、小林、益川氏に物理学賞＝素粒子理論で−ノーベル賞日本人６年ぶり」という見出しだが、本文では「計３人に授与」として、「日本人」という言葉を避け、苦心した表現になっている。ＮＨＫは「３人の日本人研究者」と表現している。
一方、外国通信社の報道を見てみると、ＡＰ通信は見出しを何回も差し替えているが、Nobel physics prize goes to 2 Japanese, 1 Americanなど。本文も“Two Japanese citizens and an American won the 2008 Nobel Prize in physics,”日本人２人、米国人１人としている。
ロイター通信も見出しはTwo Japanese, American win 2008 physics Nobelで、本文でも“Two Japanese scientists and a Tokyo-born American shared the 2008 Nobel Prize for physics”としている。
ＡＦＰ通信の見出しはJapanese duo, US scientist win Nobel Physics Prizeで、本文では“Japan's Makoto Kobayashi and Toshihide Maskawa, and Yoichiro Nambu of the United States won the Nobel Physics Prize Tuesday”。ＵＰＩ通信はU.S., Japanese physicists earn Nobel Prizeという見出し。
ニューヨーク・タイムズ紙はThree Physicists Share Nobel Prizeという見出しで、“An American and two Japanese physicists on Tuesday won the Nobel Prize in Physics”と本文で述べている。
日本の英文メディアはどうか。ジャパン・タイムズ紙はＡＰ電を使用している。朝日の英文は見出しがJapanese physicists share Nobel、本文では“Two Japanese physicists and a Japanese-born American scientist won the 2008 Nobel Prize in Physics”。読売も見出しはJapanese win Nobel Prize / 2 particle scientists share 2008 prize with Japan-born American、本文も“Two Japanese particle physicists were awarded the 2008 Nobel Prize in Physic”とし、その後の段落で南部氏を”an American”と明確にしている。
共同通信の英文サービスは、“3 Japanese”と速報した後、慌てて“2 Japanese, 1 Japanese-American scientists”と訂正、“ ”Two Japanese researchers and a Tokyo-born U.S. scientist have won the Nobel Prize in physics for 2008”という本文を流した。
Google Newsで見る限り、英文メディアで３人の日本人としているのは東京発のタス通信だけであった。共同通信を引用している。
3 Japan researchers win Nobel Prize in physics
TOKYO, October 7 (Itar-Tass) - Three Japanese scientists have won the Nobel Prize in physics. The Kyodo Tsushin news agency reported from Stockholm that two Japanese researchers and a Tokyo-born U.S. scientist have won the Nobel Prize in physics for 2008, the Swedish prize organizer said Tuesday.
