福島で起きた原子力事故が警鐘となって、私たちはみんな原子炉の安全性を当然のことだと見なすことができなくなりました。アメリカにはNuclear Regulatory Commission(NRC)があり、全米１０４基の原子炉の安全性を改善する努力を行っています。原子炉は健康に対して有害ですし、水を汚染しています。しかも、原子炉ではおびただしい水を使用します。
そんな中、トリウムエナジーアライアンスという組織は従来型とは違った原子炉の導入を提唱しています。Molten Salt Reactors(MSR：溶融塩原子炉)と呼んでいるものです。ウランの代わりにトリウムを使った原子炉で、Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors（LFTRS)とも呼ばれます。この原子炉の良さは放射能が少ないことと、汚染があまり起きないことです。トリウムエナジーアライアンスの映像のリンクを参考までにつけておきましょう。 http://thoriumenergyalliance.com/ThoriumSite/resources.html
私の考えでは原子炉は巨額の金を要しますし、建設に長期間を要します。確かに石炭や化石燃料よりはよいのですが、それでも私は太陽光発電か風力発電こそ理想のエネルギー源だと考えています。

The Fukushima disaster in Japan was a wake-up call to each of us that safety at our nuclear power plants cannot be taken for granted. We have a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) who is implementing its safety recommendations for the 104 nuclear reactors in the United States. These nuclear power plants are hazardous to health and pollute our water system. These plants also uses (wastes) lots of water.
Thorium Energy Alliance pushes the use of MSR (Molten Salt Reactors) and the kind that run on Thorium, LFTRS Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors. It seems pretty good as it creates less radiation and does not pollute. There are several videos at

IMHO, Nuclear Power Plant is expansive and takes long time to build. Although it is better than coal and fossil, I still think solar PV and wind turbine are the best way to produce energy.
