ハン・ヨンスの写真２　Photographs of Han Youngsoo 2　〜懐かしさの理由　Why do I feel nostalgia? 〜

　　ハン・ヨンス（Han Youngsoo）の写真を見て、懐かしさを感じたのはなぜなのでしょうか。日本人が韓国人と外見的に似ているからなのでしょうか。あるいは東アジアという自然や風土の類似でしょうか。いや、そういうことより、もっと本質的なもののような気がします。　
　
　　Why I felt nostalgia when I saw photographs taken by Han Youngsoo? Is this because of the physical similarity between Japanese and Korean ? Or the similarity of natural environment ? But I think these answers are superficial.　
　
　　作家の辻邦生は「言葉の箱」の中で、「イマージュ」を描くことが作家には不可欠だと言って、彫刻家のジャコメッティのエピソードを引用して説明しています。　
　
　　Japanese novelist ,Kunio Tsuji once said in a culture seminar for the beginners of writing novels,’the important thing is to write ‘image’’ speaking of an episode of a great sculptor ,Giacometti.　
　
　　「日常の、コーヒーの注文をとりにきた普通のギャルソンではなくて、一人の若い男という形になってしまった。彼の持っている日常性、役割性が全部はぎ取られて、そのままの形になってしまった。こういう場合のことを、僕は、ものがイマージュ（image　映像）になると言っています。実際にぼくたちが小説を書く場合、自分の経験、自分の知っていることについて書いたりしますが、初心者が書くと、それがつまらなくなってしまう理由のひとつは、見たもの、聞いたものが日常性にとらわれていて、普通のものでしかないからです。イマージュになっていないということが、非常に大きな要素としてあるんですね。」　
　
　　‘ An ordinary waiter who came to have an order suddenly changed into a young man deprived of all the ordinary things and roles. The waiter became a young man. I say such a situation, ‘ a thing becomes an image.’ In fact, we often write our experiences or our knowledge, but when beginners write them, the texts tend to be boring. It is because they are constrained by the ordinary details. They are not interesting at all. They were not changed into images. ‘　
　
　　ハン・ヨンス（Han Youngsoo）の一連の写真を見ると、まさにものがイマージュになっていると思います。彼は朝鮮戦争後の復興時代を写した写真家ですが、彼の写真の値打ちはその時代の政治・経済的な記録性というよりも、むしろ、そうした韓国の置かれた特殊な時代の中で、逆に普遍的な人間性や喜怒哀楽、そして風景を求めたことにあるのではないかと僕には思えてきました。だからこそ、懐かしさを感じるのであり、おそらくそこに郷愁を感じるのはアジアの人に限定されないのではないでしょうか。　
　
　　Looking through photographs of Han Youngsoo, I found they are ‘images’. Han Youngsoo is a photographer who focused on the period after the Korean war .But　I　think the essence of his photographs doesn’t lie in the political or economic record in a special period or in a special place. His originality lies in the universal humanity, emotion and scenery. It is the reason why I felt sympathy in his photos. Perhaps it is not only Asian but also people in the world who may have nostalgia when he (she) watches the photos of Han Youngsoo.
